I adopted a small kitten from the shelter about two weeks ago. It was supposed to be to just a standard orange female kitten, 8 weeks old. I did a meet and greet at the shelter and once I said I wanted the cat they said they have to get it spayed first and I'll pick her up a few days later. A few days later, I picked her up from the hospital with a clear spay scar and took her home, nothing crazy.. Today, I went to the vet, at another place to get her vaccines and do a check-up for the first time. When I got there, the vet took a look at my cat for a bit and saw the scar on her stomach, and asked if it was for a hernia or something. I was like no, the shelter gave her to a hospital to spay her before I picked her up. She was extremely confused and double-checked and said look your cat definitely has testicles. it's a boy. I was so confused, this whole time I thought it was a girl, all my paperwork, everything said it was female. She said before she continues with the check-up I should check in with the shelter and hospital and ask. My cat's testicles are still intact. I wanted to post this and ask has anything like this happened to anyone before, should I do anything about this? What did the hospital do to my cat? They cut them open and didn't see a uterus, or previous spay scar, and didn't bother to say anything? The shelter is the official city animal shelter so it wasn't from a shady place or anything. I plan on keeping my cat either way just to be clear. Also, my friends have asked how did I not notice their genitalia, and all I can say to that is, being so young, you can't see their penis really, and the testicles are like the size of two rice krispies, all behind their hair which is kinda long as well. thanks.
