My gf and I have wanted to get a cat for a while now. Before I knew we didnt have the money for it but now we’re both working pretty decent paying jobs and money isn’t an issue anymore. I’m thinking about surprising her with a cat for christmas but I’ve never had one of my own so I don’t fully know the responsibility it comes with. We live in a studio apartment basically and we both work from 2pm-11pm. I know a cat doesn’t require as much attention as a dog for example but is it ok to leave a cat at home this long by itself? I certainly wouldn’t do that to a kitten but I’d get an older cat, at least a year old. I don’t want the cat to feel lonely or anything like that.
