I’m at my wits end. My one year old cat has been endlessly meowing and scratching at my doors for months now.
There’s always food and water in his bowl when this happens as well as a clean litter box. I now leave all doors open so he has access to everything but he will even scratch those. While meowing. Excessively.
When I give him attention it stops only for the duration of time that I pet him and it doesn’t seem to matter how much attention I give him. Often he doesn’t even want to come close to be pet or played with. Not giving him attention at all doesn’t seem to work either. He will just meow for hours on end.
He mainly started getting issues after my other cat passed away and it got even worse when we moved to a new place. I’m considering getting him a play buddy but I’m afraid the new cat will take his example and become an absolute nightmare… He also still needs to be neutered so maybe that’s the issue (I’m planning on getting that done this year)?
What else can I do? More toys? More stimulation? Less or more attention? Get him that play buddy anyways? I love my cat but I’m starting to hate him… because I also love sleep and I’m not getting it.
