How I Helped My Blind & Deaf Dog Get The Lay Of The Land

Wanted to post this so it can hopefully help out others down the line. About 18 months ago my senior dog and I moved into a nice new apartment. She figured out the layout inside the apartment after about a month but I noticed on walks she would run into things or scrape into bushes.

They layout is we exit the apartment and head right about 100ft down a hallway before we hit the first patch of grass. From there we step down a curb and cross about 50ft of parking lot before we step up a curb and into the patch of grass with the dog waste can. From there we cut across the parking lot again about 75ft and go on either side of the leasing office and pool area before heading home. Left side for a short walk, right side side long.

Well I have an oil diffuser kit with about 20 different oils and I walked our paths dropping a couple drops of oils about every 3 feet. Scent A for the paths both long and short, B for the first grass patch where she pees at, and C for the second patch next to the waste trashcan. It worked like a charm! Within a week she was walking confidently, not bumping the wall, walking through a bush, or pulling because she was trying to turn off too early. I repeat the oil process about every 6-8 weeks. Just wanted to share in the hopes that can help or inspire others!
