I adopted two kittens from my uncle-in-law a few weeks back and im beginning to realize they mAY be older than we originally thought they were. This morning I walked out of my bedroom to find that my female kitten had her back end up and the male had himself positioned over her back in…YIKES
I got them away from each other and immediately (he was just hovering over her, nothing happened yet) called the vet to make an appointment to get AT LEAST the male kitty fixed. Unfortunately, since they had not been seen yet by the vet they are refusing to make a first appointment a neutering. Okay, fine, its understandable, but the EARLIEST I could get him in is November 26th for JUST THE FIRST APPOINTMENT.
The problem I’m running into now is the fact that I’m going to have to keep them separated while we are not home so they don’t try to mate. The thing is though, they are a bonded pair and it tears my heart apart not letting them cuddle all day.
I have already decided that when I am home I am going to let them be together because I could not stand to make them be without each other for over a week, but I need some advice. Is there anything else I can do besides keeping them locked in separate rooms while Fiancé and I are at work?
And before anyone recommends seeing a different vet, we only have one vet in town and the next one is an hour away, in a different state. I already tried there but they aren’t accepting new clients outside of their area. Next closest vet is two hours away but they are closed on the days I have off of work and I really would rather not miss any work as it’s getting to the busiest time of the year.
