Our 6 year old cat has had chronic diarrhea his entire life. I don’t know what to do anymore

The first couple years it was off and on, but it has gotten astronomically worse since 2019. He cannot control his bowels half the time, and frequently poops liquid diarrhea while sleeping or laying around. I am not exaggerating when I say that I have cleaned up vomit and diarrhea at least once a day for the past year. He shits on our bed, the floor, clean laundry, dirty laundry, mail that’s been delivered through the slot in our front door, anything he can. Every single night we have to put the couch cushions up to stop him from pooping on it. He will then crawl into our bed and shit on the sheets or blankets while we’re sleeping.

He doesn’t play or exercise, never seems engaged. Only sleeps until he wakes himself up by farting or pooping and then yowls in pain. He’s extremely underweight and sometimes screams when you touch him, likely because of inflammation in his gut. A few months ago he was shitting so much blood that my apartment looked like a crime scene and I was sure he would die. All the emergency clinics were full and we couldn’t do anything but give him pedialyte.

We’ve tried nearly everything, including fecal testing, ultrasounds, changing foods, and even a $4000 endoscopy. Never got a proper diagnosis, only notes that it’s likely IBD and could progress to lymphoma. He’s currently taking steroids and an anti-diarrhea medication, but they don’t seem to have any effect any more.

I can’t live like this anymore. My husband and I fight about it constantly. I am so fucking tired of crawling into bed only to find a shit stain on our sheets. Everything I own is covered in cat shit, including the cat himself.

It’s breaking my heart to consider putting down a cat so young, especially because I feel like my husband will never agree to it. I feel like a monster but I can’t live like this anymore. I don’t know what to do
