(Really) early bird

My 13 year old cat has always gotten up early to eat. I currently feed him at 5:30am, same time, everyday. Although lately, he has starting to bother us at 4/4:30am to eat. We have a small child so have a baby gate at the top of the stairs and the cats stay on the main floor and basement overnight. And he USES this baby gate to this advantage, pulling and scratching at it and making A LOT of noise until we’re all awake. I try and “shoo” him downstairs and we do this dance until I move downstairs to the couch and try and keep him away from the top of the stairs so my baby and spouse can sleep. I tried feeding him earlier today just so everyone can rest because it’s Daylight Savings Time for us which means all of this started at 3:30am this morning. Anyway, even after all that, it still didn’t solve the problem.

Anyone else have super early bird cats? What do you do to refrain them from waking up the whole house?

P.s. I am taking him to the vet next week and will review his diet etc.

P.s.s. This cat is a troublemaker by heart. He’s always stirring something up and that’s why I love him 🧡
