Ringworm

Help! We seem to have the dreaded fungus in our house. Two small indoor dogs (litterbox trained), no other pets. One dog had some missing hair on her ear but the spot looks otherwise OK. Noticed it at the end of Oct. Kept them in their pen and limited handling. Two weeks later, my son got a spot. First derm said the scrape was neg but she suspected fungus. Got a second opinion at our regular dermatologist and they suspected eczema but found fungus on the scrape.

We took the dogs to the vet and it went awful. The vet dismissed us saying that the dogs were healthy and the spot wasn't scaly, so it was definitely not Ringworm. She did the woods lamp (negative) and we insisted on a test. She took a pathetic sample and we are waiting on results. She said she will only treat the one dog if it comes back positive even though they are together nonstop. I've already requested that a different vet at the clinic handle this the rest of the way through.

My son has next to zero other possible exposures besides the dogs. I am hesitant to accept a negative diagnosis and do nothing because the way it all happened is very suspicious.

Everything online makes this sound like we are in for a hellish time, especially because we have carpet and no way to isolate them in an easy to clean room. They are 6ft from where we do schoolwork, and 15ft from where we spend most of our time. Their pen has open slat sides.

We already do some of the prescribed cleaning. We bleach the bathrooms every night and after each shower. I bleach the kitchen every night. I bleach the surfaces in the living room each night, as well as touchpoints through the house. I'm going to cover the couches with sheets and we are all sleeping on them right now because the bedroom hasn't been sanitized. Vacuuming is where we are lax. I ordered a bagged vacuum because my current one is not and leaves a lot to be desired. We also got Rescue to use. After the vet, we bathed them in the sink in nizoral and I bleached the kitchen so hard it hurt my lungs. We also deep cleaned their pen the next day, but it seriously took 4hrs. I don't know how we can do that as frequently as everything says to. Also, there are areas behind furniture/ in corners that I can't get to, and we have books and knickknacks everywhere that are impossible to sanitize, including literally 1ft from the dogs. The plastic under their pen has gaps so the carpet is toast.

I just don't understand how we can possibly stay on top of this the way we are supposed to. The laundry is already hard (double washes with extra long dry cycles, washing my son's clothes separately, going to have to add in the couch cover washes, and not to mention still needing to take care of some curtains and other blankets before putting them away). It seems like everywhere in our house is compromised but most things are near impossible to clean the way that is prescribed. We must get this knocked out before my dog goes into her next heat so that we can either get her fixed or do what we need to keep them separate. Please help!
