I had fish once when I was in middle school, and was devastated when it died. Now I'm 17 and have really started wanting an animal companion again. I can't decide whether a dog or a cat would be better though.
I'm more interested in a cat, since I find them to be generally cuter and I like their cool, regal demeanor. But I've also heard it's hard to get a cat to like you and they might just end up not liking you, while a dog would be your best friend. I want a companion to feel less lonely and a friend, so I'm thinking a dog might be better after all.
I'm also afraid of biting/scratching, so that might be something to consider as well.
