I have a flock of 7 budgies. I've had all of them for less than a year.
All of them are bonded with another one of the flock, giving me 3 pairs and leaving the last one single. Her name is Luda, she is almost 3 years old I think, and I don't know if I should get her a mate.
Luda was a single bird bonded to her owner for maybe more than a year. But her owner got too busy with school and was introduced to a new Budgie named Prince. Luda didn't care for her new friend.
Her owner went to college and sold Luda and Prince to me. I adopted my last 3 birds after them, watched as my 6 birds all hooked up.
So while all the birds are trying to find nesting holes and running around with crazy amounts of hormones, sometimes I'll see Luda just sitting there. She is still active, healthy, explores and plays. I think she too looks for nesting holes. And she certainly prefers being in her flock than seperated. But I cant tell if she is lonely or feeling left out, or is just chilling.
Is it possible that she had gotten use to humans and doesn't want to bond with other birds, and maybe just wants her human back? (She isnt fond of me either because i struggle to move slowly, so they all prefer to just talk, not touch) Or if the rest just had better chemistry with each other than she did and she just hasn't met the right bird.
Or maybe she's actually just fine and I don't need to worry about her.
Advice on what I should do? I can fit an 8th bird in my flock if it will help Luda but I cannot get any more than that
