Cat with kidney and bladder stones?

Hi all. I’m new to this thread and was just hoping for some help. My 8yo ragdoll has been diagnosed with kidney and bladder stones. Not the crystal ones that dissolve, but the calcium ones that need to be surgically removed.

Does anyone have any experiences with this? From what the vet said the bladder stones can be removed surgically, however the kidney ones cannot. The risk is that they break apart and re-enter the urinary tract causing another obstruction and then we are back at the beginning with a very sick and unhappy cat.

I’m beside myself with this news as he’s already spent a week in a cage at the vet after his initial obstruction causing me to rush him to an after hours vet who managed to get a catheter in and keep him alive. It’s such a heartbreaking and stressful situation, and I’m at a complete loss with what to do. Do we just pay the $2k on top of the $2300 tab we already have for a surgery which may or may not get him well enough to come home? Or just accept he is a sick kitty and his time has come?

I’m struggling so much with this and just feel so heartbroken. Any advice appreciated. Thank you in advance :’-(
