My dog will be turning 1 in a week. Despite my constant efforts of teaching her to drop inside and outside, she has gotten to the point now that when she knows she picked up something I don't want her to have, she will not let go and try to swallow as fast as possible. We just got back from the park and she picked up what seemed to be a dead animal. This has happened on walks as well and as such, I am dreading to walk her because I have to be extra careful as people in my neighborhood are throwing trash and bone everywhere.
I don't want to have to wrestle her every time and looking like I abused my dog. But in reality, she has gotten herself sick last month because she chewed off and swallowed a ball of ropes.
Any tips would be much appreciated. Just as we are getting over the puppy blues, this makes it so much more difficult to deal with as I am not sure how to handle this so I'm wondering if anyone has some success in this training..
