So a couple of questions. Sorry for the long post. I've lived in a lot of places, and most recently had to move to VA. Every vet I've ever had has only had to give my pets a wellness exam once a year. When we moved here, I had to take my dog to the vet twice. Once for diarrhea, once for an ear infection. The vet saw her both times. So my dog was due for a couple of vaccines, and I thought since she had been seen twice by a vet, we would only need a vet tech to do it. But then I found out they like to have 2 wellness exams a year with each pet, and not only that, but only the vet can administer most vaccines. This is different then any other vet I've gone to, where if my dog has been seen by a vet that year, a vet tech can give them their vaccines and I'm not charged an extra $50 for the actual vet.
They also have a day care and boarding, and said I wouldn't be able to take my dog there unless she had a flu shot. It's a two series shot (influenza shot) once a year, and I've never heard of it or had to get it from any place I've every boarded her. As long as she has her vaccines, maybe a fecal sample, she's good.
I'm not sure, maybe the last 3 states and vets I've gone to have just been different. They said they need to see each pet twice a year because they age faster, but this my first time hearing that and I've had pets all my life. Is this all normal practice or am I getting scammed?
