Sam is a 9 year old unidentifiable mix (70lb medium sized), and he's having trouble with stairs. He goes down them fine, but he won't climb them. More specifically, he won't walk up stairs, he'll try to jump up them. This wasn't a problem in our last house because the porch steps were shorter, but our new house has a higher porch and he fails about 20% of his jumps.
How would you go about training a dog to go up steps properly? Can it even be done when he thinks he has to jump up the steps?
