I'm moving cities and taking a 2.5 - 3 hour flight with my cat as a carry-on in a soft carrier. She's about 5 years old and has some "wild" behavioral tendencies like being incredibly skittish and absolutely HATES being picked up, will rip my arms off and launch off of me and run away if I hold her for more than 5 seconds. Despite that, she's as friendly as can be. lol
I'm signing up for TSA pre-check, have been spraying the carrier with Feliway and putting her food bowl inside of it for a month now to get her acquainted to it. Pretty much everything I've read about to possibly make the flight easier.
My question is, what was your experience going through TSA with your cat? I'm losing sleep worrying about what it will be like having to take her out of the carrier, hold her in my arms while going through the metal detector, and putting her back in the carrier. This whole process wouldn't be half as dreadful if I could just leave her in the carrier the whole trip, but I just know that if she won't let me carry her at home there's no way she'll let me do this at the scary airport. Some people have said that leashes/harnesses are only marginally helpful since cats can squirm out of them and they have metal parts on them which doesn't help with the metal detector. I wish they'd just let me keep her in there. :(
Please share any tips or personal experiences with carrying your cat through security!
