Help? My roommate’s cat won’t stop chasing mine.

They’re both young females. My cat is 3 years old and my roommate’s cat is 2. The cats have been living together for a little over two weeks now and I don’t know what to do or if there’s even a problem. I’ve never lived in a multiple cat household before, it’s only ever been me and my gal. My roommate’s cat comes from a home with two other cats (one male, one female), both of whom she got along with just fine.

When we first moved in the two cats didn’t want much to do with each other and stayed pretty separated. When they did finally start to get curious about each other my roommate’s cat would hiss at mine when she got close. We tried to keep them separated when this happened to avoid fights even though neither of them seemed to be getting overtly aggressive. We noticed that they seemed to be chasing each other around and we relaxed because we assumed they were playing but I started to notice my cat was the only one being chased and when she would turn and playfully half pounce or try to chase back, my roommate’s cat would hiss and stand her ground.

We keep them separated at night but during the day they both have freedom to explore the house, which always ends in my cat getting chased all over the place and usually hissed at. They haven’t fought at all and the roomie’s cat doesn’t growl and doesn’t even lay her ears flat when she hisses but it does feel like she’s “bullying” my cat. Should I be concerned about her behavior or is this standard? Like I said, my cat has been my only pet since I’ve gotten her and she’s also my first cat so this has all been a learning curve for me. Thank you in advance for helping me out!
