So, let me preface this by saying that I am a horrible, horrible dog owner. My Miniature Pinscher is 8 years old now, and I have finally come to my senses. I am not in a position to give him away or anything of the sort. I have done an utter garbage job bringing up my dog, and I want everyone to know that before criticizing me.
We got my dog when he was about 3 months old. His ears were cut like a show dog and he has a stub for a tail. He's very energetic and friendly, but has nails that really hurts whenever he jumps at people. He also did not, and still doesn't, bark all too much. He's a mini pin so it's even weirder. We potty trained him, taught him how to sit, roll over, etc. He ate dog food, ran like a bullet, and jumped like a bunny.
At one point, this all went backwards. We started feeding him human food - big mistake. He starts refusing to eat his dry food so we start giving him more and more human food (my father feeds him milk against my protests). He loves cheese, and even though I know it's bad for him, I still give him the cheese cause I can't resist him. He starts peeing in the night so we take out the water from his bowl at a certain point. He is constantly running away from home at any chance that he can.
Then it gets so much worse. Now, he is 8 years old. He pees everywhere, no longer has a bed because he continuously rips them up, I was far too lazy to give him walks so we put a string in the backyard where he resides and leave him out there for hours, he's constantly tied up indoors too because of the peeing problem, and he's still trying to run away.
I never played with him as much as I should have. I don't shower him, my Dad does and it only happens once every so often so he also stinks. He is obese, sheds like mad, has extremely long, sharp, uncut nails, and he is not yet neutered (my parents don't want to pay and I'm not allowed to get a job). I take full responsibility for what has become of my dog but now I need help.
I want to take more responsibility and help him and change him for the better. Obedience classes are out of the question, but I am willing to do what it takes. Can anyone help me?
