Yesterday my girlfriend and I were driving on the interstate and we hit a patch of black ice. We slid across the median and into oncoming traffic and went head-on with another car. Miraculously everyone including the dogs were fine and got out with minor injuries. We took both dogs to the vet and they had no injuries. One of them is acting normal however the other one is just so scared and it seems like she’s afraid of my girlfriend and I. She won’t come to us and cowers into corners. She’ll let us give her treats and she’s come out to drink water but that’s it. I don’t blame her for being terrified. She’s about 2 years old and she’s a chihuahua. Sometimes when we pick her up she’ll scream but I don’t believe it’s in pain I think she’s just really scared. I don’t know if she associates the accident with us and that’s why she’s so scared of us now but it’s so heartbreaking seeing her like this. Any advice on what we can do to help her feel better and get her to trust us again? Or will she just need time?
