Hey all, posting for the first time as we are losing our mind over our kitten who is great at peeing in the litterbox, but refuses to go poop in it!
My boyfriend and I have two kittens. Our one kitten is about 6 months old, and our other one is just under 4 months. Our oldest kitten, C, has never had a problem with using the litterbox. A, our younger kitten, was good for about two weeks after we got him with using the litterbox, but now seems to have developed an aversion to using it to poop.
When we first got A, we put him in a separate room than C for a week with his own litter box and food. After a week, we let A out, kept his litter box in the spare room, and went from there. However, he started to have pooping accidents, so we moved the litter box to the same room as C's litterbox, thinking maybe it was too far for him to find. We live in a 3 bedroom place, and the litterboxes are in the little laundry alcove inside the bathroom. He then was good for about a week, then started popping beside the litterbox or on the litter mat instead of in it. We seemed to solve that problem by barricading around the litterbox so he couldn't get behind it, and now our little fuzzy one will only exclusively poop in the bathtub. He's fine to pee in the litterbox, but refuses to poop unless we hear him trying to go in the tub and move him into the box at the right moment.
In order, here is what we have tried: *Two litterboxes in two places *We had a covered box, but when this started we uncovered the litterbox *Changed litter from scented to unscented after about 3 weeks *Started using one litterbox *Barricaded the litterbox surroundings so he can't get around the box *Treats after having him poop in the litterbox to try and reinforce the good behaviour
All in the span of January to now.
Our vet was the one who told us to try and use one and see what happens. He's still very small, so we want to ensure that we train him so that we are not removing cat poop from our bathtub forever!
We've also noticed that when we do get him to poop in the box, he will not cover it up. Our older kitten C, will actually come in after and do it for him.
As stated, we have no idea what to do. Any advice would be so appreciated!!!!
