Man, I hate to ask this here.
When I met my girlfriend over a year and a half ago, she had a 2-2.5 year old cat. Once we moved in together, we rescued a 6 month old cat. Her cat is about 4 years old now, and mine is shy of 2 years old. Both cats are males.
This hasn't been an issue as far as I've known since we've lived together. Her cat was originally very sweet and nurturing toward mine. Now that they're both older...things have changed.
The last two weeks, her cat has been absolutely howling at all hours of the day. We treat them both like royalty, but it doesn't seem like anything can please him. And more recently, he's been mounting my cat and biting his neck. It's gross that I noticed this, but when I separate the two, he's...proudly displaying his red rocket. It's worth mentioning that my girlfriend's cat is not neutered, and mine was neutered.
I don't know what to do. They're both sweet boys, but hers has been very aggressive toward my cat for months now. We've been able to manage it, but the behavior we're noticing now is new. We want to get him neutered, but money is a factor. We've been putting him in time out and keeping them separated for parts of the day, but that hasn't worked. It's even more uncomfortable when this happens, because my boy is clearly upset and uncomfortable when her cat mounts him. Right now all we can do is put them in separate rooms.
Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?
