So a little over a month ago I had to take in my childhood dog from my dad’s house. She is a 9 year old terrier, and at my home already living there was a 2 year old cat.
They have been living in the same house separate this whole time because my cat is very aggressive towards the new dog. I haven’t even done an on leash introduction yet because any time the dog is near her crated, in my arms, through the screen door she immediately hisses and tries pouncing. I’m scared that if I try an on leash my cat will seriously injure my dog.
I have tried a lot of different things. Having them eat on opposite sides of the door, mixing beds and other things to get each other scents, pheromone diffuser. None of it is helping. I just want them to be able to live in harmony. Is that really possible at this point?
Please help me out. I can’t keep them separated for the rest of their lives.
TLDR: New dog and resident cat have been unable to live together peacefully due to aggression from cat.
