My wife and I are finally planning on getting our first dog in 2 weeks. We already have things set up with an animal shelter and are going to meet the dogs on a Saturday. We are planning a staycation so that we can be there to help the dog acclimated to the house and our cat. I'm a little worried however, if taking a staycation right away is going to mess with the dog when we inevitably leave him home alone when we have to go back to work? Am I overthinking this? The dogs this shelter has are fostered so they're already house broken.
Side concern: I'm also a little worried about how feeding will work. My cat is on a diet, and he's constantly begging for more food. It's fine now because we simply ignore him when he begs, but if we have dog food lying around he's going to eat it (we dog sit for a friend sometimes and as soon as the cat sees dog food he goes right for it). Anything we can do to prevent that?
