Hi, I’ve been aware of the high, uncertain and at times predatory charges in veterinary clinics for a long time and I’ve stayed away from them. I’ve also observed excellent, clear and honest practices across the country. The country and so many private groups have achieved incredible records in pet rescue and adoption, however pet owners are squeezed out of every penny they don’t spend on their own health. Most times out of guilt, lack of information or simply being tricked into outrageous overcharges. I’d love to connect with attorneys and vets who want to discuss how to help improve poor practices, while organizations like SPCA do so much to advance access to vet services, other groups completely take advantage of pet owners or just use poor billing practices out of laziness and lack of care. I just walked away from a ridiculous proposal (that’s what it is, a business proposal) for a non emergency standard procedure that at least could be quoted in a range prior to scheduling a visit, and charging to give a quote (without advance notice that there would be a charge). Even after being referred by a vet, who provided stats and dod bloodwork prior. There has to be responsibility and accountability. I work in services sales and I do not charge to give a quote, and I certainly can give a range, even if extreme when I don’t know any details about what they will want/need. New pet owners would find themselves in fast growing debt if they had no experience in the matter. People who take their hard earned money to feed and care for pets and take their precious time to spend time with them and their health. Are there any veterinarians or attorneys who would like to join me in creating policy or working it through the judicial system to set legal precedent? Thank you!
