Can I leave my kitten alone?

My kitten is about 5 months old, and I’ll be starting a 9-5 job soon. I’m worried about leaving him home alone for 8-10 hours a day.

Is it okay to leave him? Is he too young? At the moment I leave him for around 5 hours at a time.
