Cat put down. Guilt.

Hey everyone this past weekend I had to put a stray cat down. We had come across this cat three months ago when she randomly walked up to my girlfriends apartment.

She had major g.i. Issues, apparent mouth decay to the point of only having two of her canines, and a naso upper respiratory infection or sorts. Over the past three months we had kept her with regular visits to the vet. She started as 3lbs and because of her conditions we had her separate from our other pets in a larger crate.

Today our visit to the vet she suggested that the medications we’re not working and likely had some sort of intenstial issues causing her malabsorption, she would regularly use the restroom right where she was laying.

We ended up putting her down after the vet determined the amount of distress and discomfort she is in regularly, and after the three months of regular care and food only gaining a fourth of a pound.

I feel guilty I’ve never had to put an animal down, and I feel like it’s not my decision to chose to put her down. What if I did it too early or I could have tried harder. I just feel so terrible.
