We adopted a young cat (1yo) almost a year ago and her behaviour is driving us absolutely insane. Not only is she constantly getting into things, destroying inanimate objects (recycling, sponges, socks, DVD covers), killing the couch, knocking things over, running around like a demon at 4am, the list goes on and on.... but she also has an insane obsession with food which makes her stalk and “chirp” at us for food.
We feed dry food in the morning and wet at night, always at the same time. But 2 hours before feeding time she will start stalking us around the house, following our every move, waiting outside of the bathroom, staring at us with her beady demon eyes, and CHIRPING at us like cats do when they stalk birds to kill. We tried free feeding for 2 weeks and she just ate herself into a 20kg surplus and when she wasn’t eating she was shitting horrible shits into the litter box which I had to clean 4 times a day.
Obviously her behaviour is reinforced because eventually we feed her — at feeding time like usual.
I fucking hate this cat and need her to calm the fuck down. What can we do?
