My landlord won't let me get a cat. My good friends have been taking care of a very sweet, semi-outdoor kitten (5 months old) but are no longer able to. I really want this cat -- I've been so ready to adopt a cat for a while now!
What are my options for owning the cat secretly? I have 3 months left on my lease, and then I will move back to the U.S. (currently abroad). I never signed a lease agreement, but my landlords have been really nice to me and I would feel pretty bad taking advantage of them. My apartment is a bit small (1 bedroom) and was pretty newly refurbished. I have sympathetic neighbors who could take the cat and her belongings on the days my landlord comes to collect rent, but I've heard that lingering cat smell is an issue -- is this true? Would cat fur, etc. be noticeable in a pretty new apartment even with intense monthly cleaning? What would you do in my situation?
Thanks.
