So funny story..... when we moved into our new apartment in September, there was a very cute friendly beautiful black long haired cat that followed me RIGHT into our apartment when we moved in. The partner manager said she’s been abandoned when her owners had moved out a few months before. I started feeding her and she slept in a box by our door. The week of Halloween I caved in and took her into our apartment to meet my own cat. Later we found out she’s been declawed, and we were SO mad that someone would leave her to fend for herself without claws!
The next day, our new companion and I were chilling on the patio, and I looked down on the ground and saw (what I thought was) our new black cat running across the ground. I look over, panicking that she’s jumped off the balcony, and see her sitting there like “what are you all freaked out about?
Every once and a while we’d see this other black cat running around. I got really confused and didn’t know which cat was abandoned, or if they both were! Yesterday, I was heading to the grocery store, and I see the cat again. So I run into the house to get some food. It RUNS up to me, meowing and SCARFING the food down. I decided to see if she was also declawed. And she was! I began to think that maybe they were sisters and had been abandoned by the same people.
Took her to the vet, to get her all checked out and I found out that she was microchipped. Her owner called me today in tears. She said her cats name was Chloe, and she hasn’t seen her in almost a year. Her daughter had her for some reason, and lost her. (It sounded a little strange to me, but the lady was in tears!) she wants to meet after I get off work and hopefully her roommate will let her keep Chloe. Of course, if she’s not able too, I’ll offer to keep her and fit her with a good home (as mine is too crowded already). But I’m not sure what to do about the vet bill..... she obviously wasn’t expecting it, although neither was I. I had to put it on my credit card as I am broke, but Chloe needed to get off the frozen streets and into a warm house. Is it wrong to ask for her to reimburse me? I just want Chloe to be happy and healthy and loved. So I don’t mind that much.... but it’s $80 that could go to paying for MY cats food and vet bills.... is there an etiquette for this kind of thing?!
