So this is kinda hard to explain and post. I don’t consider myself a reeeally strong person but I do okay and I’m fairly stable. Yet I have a specially hard time with animals suffering or in pain. I don’t know when it started but I’m sure it’s not always been this way. Any time I see or hear an animal suffer I get really stressed out and can’t seem to think straight.
I have three dogs and two cats and I care for them with my mom and our cleaning lady. They are kinda spoiled but usually don’t give us too much trouble. Recently the oldest dog had a very painful swollen prostate and had to be taken for emergency surgery. For hours, before we knew what condition he had and the treatment he needed, he was in intermittent pain and howled awfully every 20 seconds. We took them to the nearest 24h vet but it still took a while.
It was a nightmare and I haven’t recovered since. I had no way of helping him and felt helpless and desperate as he was in so much pain. Now I flinch every time I hear him make any kind of moan and feel very uncomfortable at home because I’m anticipating him or any pet really, being in pain again. It’s making me terribly anxious.
TLDR: my dog had a sudden emergency health issue and his pain yelps and the whole situation have left me with severe anxiety.
Anyone ever felt the same? Or has any advice to get over it?
