Leaving a Kitten and a Cat Alone Together

Hello Reddit!

I’ve had my cat, (who is fiesty, but timid, towards kids,) but nice to adults for 2-3 years now. I am now currently looking to get a kitten from the shelter, probably 8-16 weeks old. I live in a fairly small home with no room for a separate place for the kitten, and school is around 6-7 hours so my cat is often home alone.

I was wondering, could I leave my kitten and resident cat alone together? I’m afraid my bigger cat will hurt my kitten. Can I, or what could I do, besides separate them. Thanks!
