My cat who is now a 10 month neutered male cat, is acting stranger than usual. First off let me give some background context for you. I adopted him from a shelter when he was only four months old. The lady there had told me this woman found him and his sister in a trashcan, most likely abandoned by a previous owner :(. When the woman dropped them off they said my baby boy shut down completely, he wouldn't let anyone touch him acting as if he was scared almost. But when I had picked him up when I was looking he absolutely melted into me immediately purring so loud. The lady was shocked, and I knew he was mine from then on. He's become such an affectionate baby since then on.
Anyways, back to the reason why I am posting this. I had to board him for about 5 days, due to a mandatory trip I had to take for college (TMEA to be exact, its like a convention for choir and since I work for the director I had to go). I was so scared he would hate me after because of his abandonment issues. When I got him back however, he wouldn't leave my side for a week. Typical behavior I had thought since we never seperated before. But the thing is my cat now goes from being super affectionate to biting the shit out of me. Sometimes I'm not even interacting with him. I'm just siting on my bed or doing my homework and he literally lunges at me, and biting anything he can. Today he came up to me, head butted my head really hard, then proceeded to curl up next to me, purring. I had pet him but when I returned back to what I was doing he bit my thigh, ears back and in total agitation. I tried pulling him away (thankfully he didnt get to my leg but just biting my pants) but he wouldn't let go for a solid minute. I stopped what I did and would go from playing with him to petting him. He looked around with a weird face and darted off. This isnt the first instance either, he likes to lay with me curled up cheek to my cheek. He did this one morning but then suddenly not bit me once but twice. Once on my cheek that he left a scratch on, and the place between my nose and upper lip. I don't know why he's doing this and I'm scared it has to do something with boarding him. What can I do? Should I take him to the vets? Did I screw up boarding him??
Tldr; my cat came back from being boarded, and started to having wild mood swings; from being affectionate to aggressive. I'm scared that boarding him has effected him in a very negative way.
