My kitty is 4 years old and was diagnosed with cancer. It started with a lump on her spine that got bigger and bigger day by day. We visited the vet and the results were grave. Me and her vet talked about treatment options: surgery wasn’t promising because the lump is on her spine and wouldn’t be able to be fully removed, we talked about chemo as well but also deciding the success rate was too low to put her through the stress of chemo.
So I took her home and bought her favorite things to play with (q-tips, pipe cleaners, and some new kitty toys). She has lived and prospered for about two months, but the past two weeks she has declined significantly.
She has now stopped eating besides every two days she’ll get up and lick the juice out of wet food and still drinks water. She has started to pee in our bedroom and sleeps the rest of the time tucked in a back corner of her closet. She doesn’t run anymore, hardly walks and doesn’t have energy to even jump up in her favorite spots.
Her vet and I have been in close contact, the last phone call she brought up euthanizing. I know everyone says it is the most humane thing you can do. I need some advice.... I’ve been considering euthanasia Pros-the suffering will end -a sure way of knowing I’ll be there Cons- she will be stressed from the travel/vets office
And then I fight myself about letting her pass where she is comfortable in her little corner Pros-avoids stress of vet office -she is somewhere she is most comfortable and feels safe Cons- not a guarantee I will be there for her when she passes -she could live the rest of her life out in pain
While it’s noticeable she is in pain from the lack of food interest and not being able to make it to her litter box, she still will walk around and still purrs when being pet What should I do...I really need some advice, the past few days have been hell for me
