I went to visit a 5-year dutch shepherd yesterday that was listed as a rescue, in what I assumed was a temporary home. It turns out, she was rescued nearly 4.5 years ago and has been a permanent part of the family since then. They are looking for a new home for her, because she's apparently not getting along well with another one of their four dogs, whose much smaller and a little older.
She's a beautiful, healthy dog but is very attached to her current family. When I went to take her on a walk, she was anxious and looking for her mom. We got out of sight of the house, she freaked out, wriggled out of the harness and sprinted back to the door. She wouldn't come near me after that without her mom being there although she never seemed frightened.
Is there any hope she'd be able to disconnect from her current family and be okay with a new owner?
