I am planning a trip to Tijuana from California in an RV with my 2 small terriers next month. I consulted with my vet about documents. He told me that technically a USDA signed form is needed, requiring a back and forth process between him and them that takes some time and costs money. (I believe I went through the equivalent recently for a friend traveling with a cat to Ukraine).
The vet, who I won't name, told me that he has had many patients travel back and forth to Mexico over the years with only their rabies certificate, which I have and is current for both dogs.
My questions: Have you ever traveled to Mexico by car from the US with a dog (or cat)?
If so, what documents did you bring?
Did you have any difficulty getting into Mexico or returning with your dog?
Please do not reply with speculation or advice unless you have first hand knowledge regarding the topic. (Unless, of course, you really really really enjoy giving unsolicited advice and just can't help yourself).
