I posted a while ago and thinking I was going to have to put this dog down since no rescue would take him and all the shelters were full. Bud is a lab/bull dog/boxer?? Mix. I have just been very quiet and have done everything for my parents to not notice that he is there. I vacuum once-twice a week and Febreze the basement (where he stays) regularly. I bathe him at least twice a month so he stays pretty clean.
He recently finish petco level 1 training and knows sit, lay down, roll over, stay and leave it. He listens to me very well and loves to cuddle! Since then, my dad has been coming around and petting him and played with him once or twice.
Also, per my moms request, he goes to daycare once a week to play with other dogs so he wouldn’t be alone all day every day. She thought it was cruel of me to leave him alone all day. Even though I spend half of the morning with him and 2-3 hours before bed. AND I take him everywhere I can. Everyone is still very scared of him but I’m looking to get my own place so it will just be me and bud.
We are still working on the leash pulling, jumping and listening to commands from people other than me. He tends to play dumb when other people tell him commands. For example when my brother tells him to get in the kennel, bud will walk around for a minute. Once he gets in the kennel and brother closes the door, bud will scream/whine then brother gets scared and runs. Therefore I’m the only one that can handle him at this point.
The biggest thing we have to work on, bud is no longer bitting but he keeps mouthing like he is 6 months. Which terrifies everyone. It’s getting better and he is learning quickly. I just thought I would update a very happy story! It’s been a lot of work and money but it was worth it. I’m very grateful that my parents were really understanding and let me keep him conditionally.
