HELP! My dog’s first time with fleas. They will NOT go away!

Bear with me, this is a long winded post.

My dog is 8 years old and has never had fleas until the last few months. My fiancé and I have rented a house going on two years now and noticed a few fleas on our dog back in October. We immediately panicked and did a complete scrub down of our house, vacuumed, bought spray, bought powder and religiously checked our dog. That seemed to do the trick for a few months.

Fast forward to March of this year. I started seeing them on her fur at bedtime (I’m a freak and was checking her every night still) and again we did the cycle of cleaning our entire house (we keep the house pretty clean as it is, but were cleaning every single night after work) until finally we brought our landlord and property manager in on things. The property manager offered to fog our house with over the counter foggers so we did that, and per the vets instructions that same weekend we decided to switch our dog’s monthly medication (nexgard) to a tri-monthly medication (bravecto). Two weeks later the fleas were back. After exchanging some not so fun words with the property manager, we finally bit the bullet and paid a professional company to come spray and fog the house and treat the yard. We didn’t see anything for two more weeks and then boom, they’re all over again. 😭

I reluctantly filled our neighbor in on what’s been going on and he said this area gets fleas really bad every year and they usually treat their yard every summer and the fleas go away. I’m so confused because we didn’t have this issue last year, and our fleas are not going away. Today I had the pest control service come back out to spray the yard, and we’re still finding fleas on our dog this evening.

I feel so bad for my dog because we’ve been isolating her from our room instead of letting her sleep with us every night which is what she’s used to. We have added a flea collar and spray her with flea spray every single time we let her outside. We have invested hundreds of dollars between treatments, sprays, medication, and we just can’t do it anymore. Especially for a rental house.

Has anyone else ever experienced this and did you find success in something we’re not trying? This issue is getting so exhausted and life consuming.
