If obligate carnivores literally cannot absorb nutrients from plants, does anything good come from ingredients like apples, carrots, blueberries, flaxseed, etc in cat kibbles?

I got no replies in AskScience :(
I am trying to analyze kibbles more - I know the negative impacts of fillers like corn, potatoes, peas, etc, but is there anything positive cats can get from the non-meat ingredients in kibbles, or do they all literally just pass right through without any nutrients absorbed? A friend of mine is focusing on the effect of heat on kibble ingredients and how the nutrients change when extruded/heated. But now that I'm thinking about it... why bother looking into how heat would change the nutritional value if they aren't getting anything from it in the first place?
