Just adopted a 2m old kitten and my 4yr old ladycat is so upset she refuses to purr. ;-;

She's not aggressive at all, but if he goes near her, she'll hiss, so we're keeping them separated and doing the slow introduction thing. He just arrived today, so I totally understand how upset she probably is. Luckily, she isn't really the type to act out or go looking for trouble. She keeps to herself and she's really the chillest cat I know.

In fact, she honestly seems fine, but I know she's upset. She usually purrs a lot and so loud, very easily. All afternoon, she's just laid in the master bedroom and just really seems like, "I'm fine." She's not purring either, which makes me so sad, because she normally purrs over everything.

Does anyone have any recommendations or tips for lifting her spirits? I don't want her to think she's got competition or like she's being replaced. I don't know if cats get the feeling of "replacement" as much as just an intruder on their territory.

Generally, though, I just hate seeing her upset.
