Studying abroad with a cat

Hi everyone. I'm looking into doing my video game art and design thesis over in Germany for a semester a year from now. I loved visiting for a three week abroad study and really connected with the students and the program. Honestly, my cat is the biggest deciding factor. I could barely handle three weeks without him, so four months seems like hell. However, I'm not sure about taking him with me.

A little background on my cat. He is a 2 year old orange male. I adopted him as a companion feline because my narcolepsy causes anxiety and depression. He's moved apartments with me five times and has lived with three different cats. He loves going outside and on trips to the pet store and university and parks. He does however have a general anxiety problem and seems to get triggered randomly and sometimes gets aggressive to get my attention.

I both love my cat and the idea of studying abroad, but I wonder if it's almost abusive to make him travel twice in four months. I think he would be okay without me for four months because my ex boyfriend likes to watch him when I'm gone and he has another cat that he likes to play with, but he will probably miss me a lot. I don't really know what to do and would love some advice.
