So I recently broke up with my boyfriend, together for 4 years and lived together 2.5. About one year ago we adopted our cat who was 5 years old at the time. She had previously lived in a home with other cats, and then the owner had to go to assisted living so she was in the humane society for 3 months, then we got her.
My ex moved to his parents house a week ago until he can move into his new place, which he said could be like the end of June. The plan is he will take the cat when he gets his new place.
It’s definitely best for him to have her, since I’m keeping the dog and she’s already a lot of work. I’m just worried about kitty going through so many changes! I think she notices he’s not here anymore, she’s eating less of her food than usual which she would do when we’d go out of town. Is a month with him gone long enough for her to totally forget about him? Is she going to feel like a total stranger is taking her away once he comes and gets her? And will she adjust?
