Hi Redditors!
It’s been a year since my partner and I lost our beautiful floofer of 17 years. He was amazing in every way and lived a long and wonderful life. He also had a brother who passed a few years earlier from (very) sudden heart failure. It took some time for me to get used to the idea of bringing new family members in, but I’m finally ready since we’ve got our new place all set up and settled in. I miss the snuggles and the mews and the all around comfort of being a cat parent.
We fell in love with a brother/sister pair and are about to speak with the foster, already have been cleared for adoption just need to meet them. I’m a little nervous, simply because they’re both listed as a little shy and I’ve only raised cats from kitten age. They’re both just over a year old.
Just wondering if anyone can offer some advice on how to integrate them into our home, get to know them on their terms, etc. I’ve found there are all these guidelines on what to do initially with sanctuaries, but locking them in a room seems wrong to me. I understand why it’s a thing but maybe someone has had experience successfully with not doing that. I’ll follow the foster’s advice of course, and we’re going to do whatever we can to give them a loving and warm home, just looking for any extra tips from people who have experience.
Thanks!
