Hi folks!
I'm planning to get my first cat as a pet. I'm fairly certain I want to go a shelter and get an older cat without health issues. Mainly because I work shift work and can't afford to be present constantly at set times to raise a kitten or adolescent. I rent my apartment, so I'm told I can't stick or drill anything into the walls unless it's with double sided adhesive, which limits options for toys or ledges.
So with this in mind:
1: The tallest spot in my apartment is likely to be a cat tree. Should I be aware of anything when getting tall cat trees for elderly cats?
2: There's an outdoor cat that lives in the area that treats the apartment block like it's own territory, and it has open access to my front door. Besides putting a litterbox next to the door, is there anything else to be aware of with an owned cat nearby? (can't fix the door access problem, apartment's front doors are in open air).
3: Any suggestions for securing valuable or fragile objects that cats can get in and around? (computer monitors, TVs, vases, etc)
4: I can't be home during the day, so any suggestions for what to do for the cat's lunch? Or should you stick to 2 meals a day to keep it's weight in a healthy range?
Any help would be appreciated!
