Ok, I don’t know if this page is the right place for me to write this, but I just wanted to share my experience with people so some of you might tell me how you got over something like this.
Anyway, when I was 9 (I’m 25 now), I got a cat. It was love at first sight tbh. We never separated and he’d always been around. He pretty much only loved me (although he was always nice with everyone- and he eventually fell in love with my bf as well). I’ve always felt like we had a strong connection that I’ve never seen anyone have with their pets. I know lots of people love their pet, but I just felt like what we had was unique.
Fast forward to 2 days ago. I was in the kitchen, on my computer. My cat stopped next to me on the floor and said a big “meow”. I knew that meant he wanted love. I grabbed him and he sat on my lap. I don’t know if you’ll get the picture, but his head was resting in the crook of my elbow as if he was just listening to what I was saying. I kissed him on the head and told him he was the best cat anyone could dream of and that I was lucky to have him.
After a few minutes, he got off me and went in the living room and sat on my bf’s lap. He pet him and after a minute, my cat got up and jumped to the floor and died. Just like that.
My bf and I were in a panic (obviously), but there was nothing we could do (we called a vet, tried to give him a cardiac massage...). He died in a matter of seconds.
My cat was pretty old but was still playing and didn’t show signs of illness or anything.
Apparently, heart failure is one of the most common deaths for cats.
Am I crazy to think that my cat told us goodbye in her own way? That he knew it was coming or something?
Thank you for reading and if you’ve lived something like this, can you tell me how you got over it?
