(I’d post this in r/cats, but I don’t have enough karma yet to post there.)
At nighttime, I have to corral all three of my cats into my bedroom and close them in for the night because otherwise they harass and wake up other family members. Nbd.
The problem is that one of my cats like to dig his water bowl and because my bedroom has particle board flooring, getting it wet will cause it to fall apart like wet tissue. He puts his arm into the bowl up to his elbow and makes huge breaststroke sweeps with his arm, flinging water everywhere for a good 2ft in every direction around his bowl. If the bowl isn’t weighted or he can’t put his paws in it, he’ll flip it entirely. Our current setup in the kitchen is a giant high-walled rabbit cage tray with two giant, heavy metal dog bowls in a metal holder in the middle so he just floods the tray. It’s way too big for me to put something similar in my room.
There are already four soft spots in my floor where my foot has nearly gone through from the flooring having gotten wet when an animal threw up, I spilled a cup of coffee, the dog drooled in her sleep, etc. Family can’t afford to put real floors in so I gotta make do for now, and I can’t have my little bastard making my floor cave in entirely.
I’ve tried using a travel pet waterer with a lip on the inside of the bowl to prevent spilling, and while it keeps my cat from flinging water everywhere, he also won’t drink out of it because he doesn’t like the edges touching his whiskers. Then I tried two different cat fountains and none of my cats will drink from them, while the water digger still tries putting his hands in the fountain and flinging the water around.
As it is, I have no way of supplying the cats with water overnight without having to risk potentially sleeping under the trailer when the floor caves in from getting wet. I need some sort of dish or bottle that I can mount/screw into the wall, which can’t be tipped/pushed over or flung everywhere while being accessible enough that a cat won’t have trouble drinking from it, but I can’t find any products with good reviews that meet those specifications. My budget is also pretty limited.
If anybody knows of some decent products that might work, I’d greatly appreciate it.
