I don't usually do anything about the cats outside my apartment complex but I've been hearing this kitten meow all day today. He was pretty much nonstop meowing in the stairwell by my door for an hour before I got food to put outside. The second I opened the door this boy immediately ran inside my apartment. He's a young long hair orange boy, unneutered, and he's very friendly.
I didn't notice it right away but after petting him I can feel that he's very thin, like there's no fat on him at all and I can feel all his bones. He doesn't feel dehydrated. He also has a collar with a bell but no tag. The collar seems new but the bell is worn. I gave him food and water which he ate and drank completely.
Should I put him back outside? Should I contact a rescue? I don't want to take someone's cat but he's so thin and I saw a different orange cat last week with an ugly injury on its leg. I guess I'm a little worried about him.
I have my door open for him to leave but he's sleeping inside atm.
