I've got a yorkie who's 9 years old now and after a check up the vet says he needs to get a dental cleaning done and also he will need to have some of his teeth extracted. They said this can even be up to 10 teeth extracted and I'm just freaking out because how is he supposed to eat properly?? I know this could have been prevented and I feel awful. I just want to make sure he is healthy moving forward. I've heard that they don't even tell you how many teeth they've taken out until the procedure is done.
I'm looking around for the best rates too because the surgery is so expensive, and I'm just wondering how long it's ok to wait? I had no idea this could cause him pain, he never shows any pain when eating or us petting him or playing around... I'm also scared about the anesthesia because I've heard sometimes dogs don't even wake up from this. We've got his bloodwork all done and they said he's a very healthy dog and it's just the teeth that could cause problems later on because it's in stage 3.
Could anyone who knows what it's like to undergo this procedure tell me how their dog reacted to it? Is this something that will help him greatly or make him even more stressed? Is this going to negatively impact his life expectancy? Any help would be so appreciated, thanks.
