Newly Adopted Cat Not Eating/Drinking

Hi Reddit!

I adopted an adorable 2 year old cat on Thursday night. I am a first time cat owner, but have owned dogs and horses - so have experience with animals.

Since coming home, she has not been eating or drinking. She has also been sneezing, with intermittent eye watering. She has thrown up small amounts of clear liquid x 2. She has used her litter box at least twice. She was spayed on 9/21. She was vaccinated at the shelter.

I've called the vet twice, and they don't seem concerned. She has an appointment tomorrow morning (Monday). I am keeping a close eye on her - I have a low threshold for taking her to urgent care, but thought I would reach out and see what you guys think.

I have set out two types of dry food (the type she had been eating at the shelter, and a type I bought at the store), two types of wet food (chicken and salmon), and a can of tuna. I have tried heating the wet food, creating a mushy pate of dry food + wet food, etc. She has only taken a few licks, but not actually any bites/substantial amounts.

On Friday, I started using a 5ml syringe to slowly and carefully give her small drops of water on her tongue, and I've been doing that about every 90 minutes. (I can't believe she's letting me do it!)

I have read that cats can feel stressed in a new environment, and it may take them a few days to feel secure enough to eat/drink. I keep hoping she will turn a corner and start eating/drinking on her own.

Do I need to be more patient & give her a few more days? Any suggestions on what other food I can offer? Or how to make her food more appealing? Anything I can do to promote hydration - especially her drinking on her own?

Other than what I described above, she has been extremely sweet and affectionate. Perhaps a little lethargic, understandably. She's sitting on my lap as I write this!

Thanks so much!
