I normally only fill my cat's bowl once a day, during the mornings, and she eats whenever she feels like it. Her name is Sally, she's my only cat.
The thing is, every, every single time before she starts eating she has to spend 5-10 minutes with me doing something. Purring, sitting on my lap, walking around on the table with the tail upwards rubbing in my face, and most frequently, kneading. This is my first cat, but I've never seen a cat knead on my belly so much as she does. I spend most of my time on my computer, so it's easy for her to jump on my lap, and she kneads A LOT. Normally, she only stops when I interrupt. After that, she goes immediately to the food. She also frequently refuses to eat when I'm not at home, specially when I travel for more than 1 week. I also must tell that I live alone and I'm home 90% of time (I leave home 3 or 4 times a week for 1-4 hours max).
Have you seen some other cat doing some ritual before it does something? Is this over-attachment, and if it is, to what extend is it acceptable?
