I found a stray cat 7 years ago and house broke him, he became a beloved family member with a tonne of personality. Two days ago he got out at night (Ontario, Canada), it was just below freezing. We had hope he might be alright because he was a stray originally. Mind you now he has no front claws, is neutered and a fat house cat. He came back last night after a day of searching for him, put our clothes out, food, blankets. Since he got back he’s been more like himself 7 years ago, less cuddly, more into his hunting toys(stuffed mice). I attribute this to his natural defence and predatory systems kicked in during his adventure and it’ll take time for him to readjust. Its just wild how he’s a different cat after 24 hours outside. Anyone know anything about this?
