I've had my cat, Ginger, for around 10 years now. I love her so much and I would do anything for her. Ginger is a stray who ended up becoming our cat. Another cat I had 10 years ago brought her home after he got her pregnant. He left but she's been with us ever since having babies multiple times with other cats giving us some very cute kittens who would inevitably leave after 7 months or so. We have tons of stray cats in and around where we live and we always give them food if they come home. Some of these cats obviously get more friendly and end up staying with us. That's kind of the problem.
Ginger had the operation (got her spayed) a couple of years ago and she's become so much more affectionate and happy ever since. We're equally happy that she doesn't have to get pregnant anymore because it was obvious she hated it towards the end. It's just that she hates kittens now (I fostered a kitten I found stranded outside my house and kept him home for a couple of months trying to find someone to adopt him. When I tried introducing him to her she just got really upset and refused to speak to me or even look at me. There was a lot of crying on my part. Decided to give Garbage [the cat] away because of that and other safety reasons because we have big male cats at home)
Now we've started feeding this very cute 1 year old cat (Small Cat) and she's come to like us quite a bit- she doesn't even eat her food unless we pet her for a bit first. A month ago we found out that Small Cat was keeping her kittens in the apartment behind our house. We didn't interact with them and kept a safe distance but in the past week, she's brought all three of them here. The kittens are adorable. I already love them but they're still quite wary and only let us play with them from a considerable distance. They don't stay at the house 24/7 but when they come, they stay for more than a couple of hours.
Ginger didn't really like Small Cat in the beginning either but kind of made her peace with her presence in the house. She would get annoyed with us when we petted Small Cat but it didn't seem to bother her too much. Now that the kittens are here, she's either extremely angry or extremely upset. She's seen me looking at them and petting Small Cat and she's been extremely angry with me for the past 4 days - recoiling every time I try to pet her, scratching/biting too, and basically just running away from me every time I go anywhere near her.
I love her so much and I want to make it up to her. What should I do?
